BROWN ON HAND TO HELP PROMOTE AWERES PUBLIC SCHOOL BREAKFAST PROGRAMME

AWERES - Algoma-Manitoulin MPP Mike Brown was on hand today for the official launch of the Aweres Public School breakfast programme for the 2004-2005 school year. The purpose of this launch was to raise awareness of the breakfast programme and the importance of good nutrition to successful learning.

"I was very pleased to be at Aweres Public School this morning to help raise awareness of the breakfast programme," said Brown. "The student and adult volunteers who keep this programme running are to be congratulated for their hard work and dedication, along with the businesses and individuals that make financial contributions that make this programme possible. A nutritious breakfast is absolutely vital to the success of our students."

Also present were Cathy Hamor, Breakfast Programme Coordinator, Aweres Public School Principal Gary Rainbird, O.P.P. Officer Bill Mackan, Chief Dave McMinn of the Aweres Fire Department, and Aweres Public School students and adult volunteers of the breakfast programme.

The Aweres Public School Breakfast programme has been operating since 1995 and serves an average of 60 students a nutritional breakfast three days per week.

"I can't stress enough the importance of a nutritional breakfast programme at our school. Our students are able to get a nutritional breakfast that gives them a kick-start to the day and helps them to be successful learners," said principal Gary Rainbird. "I was very pleased to see our MPP Mike Brown, Fire Chief McMinn, Officer Mackan and everyone else that came out to help us show off the success of this breakfast programme and to raise awareness of the importance of nutrition to successful learning."
